Advancing Timber Construction in Europe: Insights from Vanesa Baño in El Progreso

In a recent article published by the Spanish news outlet El ProgresoVanesa Baño, a Senior Researcher at InnovaWood and a forestry engineer with over two decades of experience in timber construction, reflects on the use of wood in construction and the European projects she is involved in.

Drawing on her past experience in timber construction, such as her work on the Uruguayan Museum of Contemporary Art Atchugarry (MACA), she emphasizes the growing demand for wood in construction across Europe.

She also highlights the opportunity for regions like Galicia to expand its use. Wood is presented as a sustainable, renewable material that acts as a carbon sink and allows for precise prefabrication.

The AEGIR project is presented as an example of using wood in construction. The project explores solutions such as external façade systems that enhance insulation, integrate solar panels, and even reuse materials like wood from Galician mussel rafts.

Through her work with InnovaWood and projects like AEGIR, Baño advocates for innovation and greater acceptance of timber as a key material in future construction.
