AEGIR Demo-led Replication Workshop Series (DWS):

DWS 1&2 - France & Spain

Background

The AEGIR project is pleased to announce its Demo-led Replication Workshop Series (DWS), bringing together architects, engineers, building owners, policymakers and researchers to explore how industrialised deep-energy renovation can be scaled across Europe.

These one-hour workshops will highlight the approaches and solutions for intervention at each demo site, covering digital twin (BIM) workflows, façade technology, energy systems, and the pathway to replication in other buildings across Europe.

The first session (DWS 1&2) is scheduled on 16 April, 2026, 14:00-15:00 CEST, and will spotlight two of AEGIR’s four demonstration sites: a primary school in Malgrat de Mar, Catalonia (Spain), and a residential building for elderly residents in Boën-sur-Lignon, Loire (France). Both buildings are undergoing a comprehensive retrofit using AEGIR’s prefabricated modular façade system, which integrates advanced thermal insulation, photovoltaic panels and smart ventilation to achieve a total of at least 60% energy savings.

In addition, IDP, a technical partner, will present how Building Information Modelling (BIM) and integrated digital workflows can support the planning phase, by enabling coordinated design, performance assessment, and a structured, replicable approach to renovation projects.

What makes AEGIR’s approach distinctive is its industrialised, off-site fabrication model. Standardised façade modules are manufactured away from the building site and installed rapidly, minimising disruption to occupants and dramatically reducing construction time. In France, this strategy has enabled a full renovation of an occupied elderly care building with zero displacement of residents, using a lightweight timber-based system with integrated building photovoltaics (BIPV) and second-life battery storage.
