AEGIR was represented at RoomVent 2026, the 18th edition of the international conference on room air distribution, held in Prague from 15 to 18 September 2026. Matthieu Chaigneau (Fraunhofer ISE) presented the poster “Multi-agent path finding for facade-integrated ductwork”, co-authored with Shafi Shaik, Awwab Hassan and Sven Auerswald (Fraunhofer ISE) and Olaf Knospe (Westaflex). The poster was awarded the conference’s Best Poster Award.
The work addresses a practical bottleneck in the AEGIR renovation concept: prefabricated facade modules that combine windows, insulation, electronics and ventilation ducts in a single element. Routing those ducts by hand is slow and does not scale to industrial prefabrication. The team designed an algorithm and a tool that automatically find a set of duct routes that reaches every air outlet without crossing each other or clashing with windows, while keeping pressure loss to a minimum.
Validated on 250 synthetic facades and four real ones, it routes a complete facade in less than 60 seconds. Benchmarked against manual design, it produced on average 8.5 % fewer bends and 5 % shorter duct runs, reducing the pressure losses and thus overall energy consumption of the system. Beyond ventilation, the method generalises to other network-routing problems such as water piping and electrical cabling.
The corresponding conference paper will soon be made available online.
AEGIR (Digital and physical incremental renovation packages enhancing environmental and energetic behaviour and use of resources) is a Horizon Europe project developing and demonstrating prefabricated façade systems for deep-energy renovation across four European pilot buildings.
