Retrofit Innovation Summit 2025 in Liège

AEGIR was represented at the Retrofit Innovation Summit, held on 19–20 November 2025 at the Palais des Congrès in Liège, Belgium. The international event brought together innovators, industry leaders, and researchers committed to transforming the retrofitting value chain, with two days of discussions dedicated to advanced solutions for accelerating Europe’s building renovation wave.

Representing AEGIR project, Eva Ceh, from InnovaWood, delivered a presentation in the session Industrial Renovation Value Chain: Building Envelopes and Construction Systems. Her talk highlighted both the innovative product solutions AEGIR is developing and the methodological frameworks guiding the project’s work.

Showcasing AEGIR's Product Solutions

The presentation introduced the renovation solutions currently being developed and applied across AEGIR’s four demo sites. Among the key innovations showcased were:

  • Plug-and-play façade elements enabling rapid, minimally invasive renovation
  • Smart building envelopes that integrate digital monitoring and optimisation systems
  • Adaptable construction components tailored to the specific challenges of each demo building

These solutions reflect AEGIR’s commitment to scalable, modular, and circular renovation strategies that can be replicated across Europe.

A Holistic Methodology for Circular Renovation

Beyond the technological innovations, AEGIR’s development of integrated methodologies was emphasized. These methodologies are designed to evaluate renovation processes holistically across the full value chain, from materials to building-level impacts.

To assess performance, circularity, and environmental impact, the project applies a suite of complementary KPIs and assessment frameworks, including:

  • Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
  • Cradle to Cradle principles
  • LEVEL(s) framework
  • R-strategies for circularity
  • Carbon Flow Analysis
