AEGIR at Shaping Sustainable Futures : Innovating for People-Centric Cities and Communities

On the 6th of March 2025, AEGIR took part in the Shaping Sustainable Futures conference in Brussels. The joint conference was organised in collaboration with several European projects, namely NEBULA, CrAFt, AEGIRINGUMA, Woodstock and NEB Academy projects.

The event focused on presenting the findings and results of these projects, offering their perspectives on the future of the New European Bauhaus and sustainable cities. Among other topics, the results and lessons learned were shared on:

• How municipalities are adopting the New European Bauhaus,
• The role of clusters in driving innovation for sustainable construction across Europe,
• Making renovation more sustainable, beautiful, and inclusive,
• Leveraging digital tools and education to implement the New European Bauhaus.

The gathering of several EU-funded projects at this joint conference provided a unique opportunity to share insights on sustainable innovation in the built environment, where AEGIR plays a significant role. The event also offered a platform to engage with the European Commission on the future needs of the construction sector.

AEGIR participated in two key sessions. In the morning session, project coordinator Julen Astudillo from Tecnalia presented the project, sharing the latest updates and developments in the “Beautiful, sustainable & inclusive renovation” session.

AEGIR Workshop : EU Level Dialogue

In the afternoon session, Florence Kuijl from InnovaWoodand Bard Rama from ICLEI moderated the workshop “Scaling up sustainable renovations – AEGIR perspectives.” Julen Astudillo, Tecnalia, and Magdalena Zabek, TU Delft, presented the main features of the AEGIR solution. Their presentations were followed by an interactive Q&A session explored replication possibilities for energy-efficient building renovation, with a particular focus on AEGIR’s building envelope technologies, designed to improve energy performance, reduce renovation costs, and enhance indoor environmental quality.

The participants learned more about how prefabricated façade solutions can be applied to various building types and climates across Europe.DigitAland physical incrEmentalrenovation packaGes/systems enhancing envIronmentaland energetic behaviourand use of Resources. A report of the findings of this workshop will be published on the AEGIR website in due time.
